Language Log's Geoff Pullum provides the latest installment in his series of scathing commentaries on Dan Brown, author of the abominable The Da Vinci Code and other light classics. At this point, Pullum is self-consciously hamming for his audience, but the screeds are impressive and entertaining anyhow. This time, commenting on an earlier Dan Brown opus, Digital Fortress, Pullum crafted the following brilliant summary:
"In short, to call this novel formulaic is an insult to the beauty and diversity of formulae."
