It's been a while since I put up any gratuitous Shabana Azmi, so here is some.
I'm a fair neophyte to the vast universe of Indian cinema, so I don't have a whole lot to say beyond, er, oh my. At any rate it's hard to imagine thighs like that on a Hollywood starlet, and that's just a crying shame.
I've only seen one of Shabana Azmi's films so far (as I said, neophyte), but I've seen it three times, so that has to count for something. And I don't think a film could be crafted that could push more of my buttons at once. Some day, if I ever develop any objectivity about it, I'll post some of my thoughts about it.
Leaving that aside, though, I do have another of her films waiting for me to watch, thanks to the joyous magic of Netflix. The film is मृत्यु दण्ड (mrityu dand), "Death Sentence," and it shares a theme with "Fire": the things that women do to free themselves from bitter, passionless lives. I will post some comments about it once I have gotten a chance to sit down and watch it.
